Sergey Viktorovich Lavrov (Russian:?????????????????????????) is the Russian Foreign Minister. , pronounced [s??r?g?ej?vikt?rv??t?? l?v?rof]; born 21 March 1950) is a Russian diplomat who has served as Foreign Minister of Russia since 2004. He was formerly the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation. His appointment to the position of Foreign Minister was confirmed by two different Russian presidents: Dmitry Medvedev in 2008 and Vladimir Putin in 2012, respectively. In his previous position, Lavrov served as a Soviet diplomat and as Russia’s ambassador to the United Nations from 1994 and 2004. Lavrov is fluent in English, French, and Sinhala, in addition to his native Russian.
