Octavio Eduardo Dotel Diaz (born November 25, 1973) is a Dominican former professional baseball pitcher who played for the New York Mets and the Chicago White Sox. Dotel played for thirteen major league teams, more than any other player in the history of Major League Baseball (MLB). He set the record when he pitched for the Detroit Tigers on April 7, 2012, breaking a record previously held by Mike Morgan, Matt Stairs, and Ron Villone. However, he will be remembered most fondly as a member of the Houston Astros, partly because he was a member of the team for the longest period of time in the league’s history (he played for them for Dotel made his Major League Baseball debut on June 26, 1999, for the New York Mets, and he was unsuccessful. His first Major League Baseball victory occurred on July 1, 1999, when he defeated the Florida Marlins. As a result of his performance in Game Five of the 1999 National League Championship Series against the Atlanta Braves, he finished the season with a victory. Player of the Week honours were bestowed to him for the week ending July 25, 1999. Dotel was a member of the St. Louis Cardinals when they won the World Series in 2011.
